NSE block deals today — the institutional footprint.
Every ₹10 crore / 5-lakh-share trade routed through NSE's two block-deal windows (09:15–09:50 + 14:05–14:40). Almost exclusively FIIs, DIIs, MFs, and PE houses — the positions they don't want to splash across the continuous market. Total notional, buy/sell split, top buys and top sells for the session.
NSE publishes the block-deal feed after each window closes. Check again after 09:50 IST (morning window) and 14:40 IST (afternoon window).
What "block deal" means
A block deal on NSE is a single trade of 5,00,000 shares OR ₹10 crore worth — whichever is lower — executed between two institutional parties in one of two daily 35-minute windows. The trade must be priced within ±1% of the previous day's close or today's volume-weighted price.
The mechanic exists so that large positions can be transferred without swinging the continuous market. It's almost exclusively institutional: FIIs rotating country exposure, DIIs rebalancing sector baskets, MF houses exiting theme funds, and PE outfits monetising IPO holdings post-lock-in.
How to read the tape
- • Clustered buying in a single name (3+ buy blocks) often signals a coordinated accumulation — especially when the buyer name includes "FII" / "FPI" tags.
- • Block sell + heavy F&O short-buildup in the same name = strong distribution tell. Watch this combination with the F&O OI scanner.
- • PE exit blocks (firms like ChrysCapital, General Atlantic, Tiger, SoftBank) are usually one-way monetisation and often signal local tops in the name.
- • Cross-FII shuffles (one FII buys, another FII sells the same name same day) are structural, not directional. Ignore the noise.
