About Muhurat Trading
Muhurat Trading is a symbolic one-hour session held on Diwali (Laxmi Pujan) every year. Markets are otherwise closed that day. Traders consider it auspicious to make a token purchase during this window — historically associated with starting the Hindu accounting year (Samvat). Orders placed are real and settle normally.
2026 Muhurat: Wednesday, 21 October 2026 · 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM IST. Exact timing may shift by ±30 min per NSE pre-session circular (issued a week prior).
What "settlement holiday" means (when it applies)
On a settlement holiday the exchanges DO trade but the clearing corporation (NCL / ICCL) does not settle. In practice for retail: your funds from a T+1 sale will credit one day later. SEBI has removed most settlement holidays post T+1 rollout (2024) — the consolidated holiday above applies to both trading + settlement by default.
