Relative Strength Rank — the CANSLIM leaderboard for NSE.
The 1-99 percentile score every momentum trader checks on StockCharts.com / IBD — finally rebuilt for Indian markets. Weighted 3 / 6 / 9 / 12-month price performance ranked across NIFTY 50 + Next 50. RS > 80 = leaders. RS < 20 = laggards. Updated daily.
How RS Rank is computed
For each stock, we compute the trailing returns over 4 windows:
- • 63-day (3-month) — weight 40%
- • 126-day (6-month) — weight 20%
- • 189-day (9-month) — weight 20%
- • 252-day (12-month) — weight 20%
The weighted raw score is then rank-transformed across the entire universe and mapped to a 1–99 percentile. A stock with RS = 85 has outperformed 84% of the NIFTY 100 constituents over the blended window.
How momentum traders use it
- • CANSLIM buy rule. RS ≥ 80 AND price near 52-week high AND technical base breakout with volume = classic CANSLIM entry. Leaders keep leading.
- • Relative-weakness avoid. RS < 20 names rarely become next quarter's leaders — skip them for momentum strategies.
- • Sector leadership check. When 3+ names in one sector (IT, PSU Bank, Auto) cluster at RS > 80, it's genuine leadership — not a one-stock story.
- • Fresh leadership rotation. Stocks moving from RS 40-60 to RS 75+ in 1-2 months are new leaders emerging — often more powerful trades than stocks already at RS 90+.
